Q & A

Favourite place to ride?
Whistler. It is my favourite place away from home. So many trails and the riding there is so good!

How did you get into riding?
My brothers and I had an entry level “mountain bike” to share. I saw there was a club forming in my local town and I went along to the open day to see what it was about. Loved it immediately and have never looked back since.

Favourite trail of all time?
629, Nelson

Favourite rider to watch?
I couldn’t pick just one. All the top DH and Enduro Frenchies are insane to watch, sooo smooth and fluid, and make the jankiest, off camber lines look like they are just riding a pavement.

Favourite food / colour / movie?
All food / Blue / Forest Gump or Lion King

What are you into outside of bikes?
Dogs and BBQs.

Scariest riding moment of all time?
Megavalanche. Dropping mass start into an icy glacier at 7am in the morning with that “ALARMA!!” Song playing. The fear is very real haha.

Favourite OneUp product and why?
It is a draw between the handlebar and EDC tool. I love the feeling of the handlebar and the compliance through rough sections of trail. The EDC tool has saved my ride (and my friends' rides) countless times, it is unbelievably handy.

If you're put on the spot and have to tell a story, what is the story you tell?
I once got stuck in a building by myself in Madeira. I was in an underground car park and there was a creepy guy looking at me so I wanted to get away fast. I went through the first door I found which led to a staircase. The door closed and locked behind me. The staircase led to a building under construction with all doors locked and I couldn’t get out. My phone had a low battery and I only had my New Zealand sim that didn’t work so I couldn’t call or text anyone. I tried pulling the fire alarm to get help but no one came. After a couple of hours I tried breaking a glass window with a rock but it was some kind of special safety glass that didn’t break. I was bracing myself to be stuck in there for the rest of the weekend, but very luckily I managed to hail a couple down who were passing by the window. At first they thought it was a prank but then they came to my rescue and I managed to get out. After that I always made sure I had a working sim haha.

Favourite trick, to do or to see done?
I love videos of a good scrub, never gets old. Also I saw a superman one hand seat grab, that blew my mind.

Who would you be if you could be any non-mountain bike athlete?
I don’t really follow many other sports, but I think a skier, snowboarder or surfer would be awesome.

Air or coil shock?
I’m loving my air shock at the moment - DVO Topaz Gen3.
